karo IP | China Business

karo IP supports German and European companies active in China as well as Chinese clients operating in Germany and Europe. Our karo IP China Desk Team has many years’ experience in advising in cross-border projects, investments, and business activities involving intellectual property rights.

In close collaboration with our Chinese native speakers of the team, who received their legal, technical and scientific training in China and Germany, our patent and trademark attorneys have built long-term trust-based relations with Chinese IP law firms and companies for many years. There is a regular and close professional exchange with the aim of bundling expert knowledge as well as advising clients in the best possible way.

For years, there has been a growing interest of our Chinese clients in investing in Germany and Europe, as well as an increasing involvement of German companies in China. With the expertise and commitment of the karo IP China Desk, our firm is able further to increase our support for such activities significantly from the legal side. With our Chinese clients we communicate in English and Chinese.

In our China Blog we regularly inform you about current topics in IP law (patents, trademarks, designs) and about IP strategies, e.g. relating to digital technologies, such as IoT and industry 4.0.

Experts at the Think Tank "Nanjing Overseas Intellectual Property"

January 2022: Dr. Yingkun Brunner and Matthias Rößler, LL.M. will work for the "Nanjing Overseas Intellectual Property"-Think Tank in Nanjing, China as certified experts for many companies from China for the next 2 years.

The main task and function of the expert pool is to support Chinese companies in IP-relevant legal issues, especially when it comes to information around the registration and enforcement of IP rights and the development of IP strategies, as well as in case of patent litigation matters.

The karo IP China Desk Team also sees this commitment as an opportunity to actively shape the exchange of knowledge and experience - both in the interest of Chinese companies that want to place their products and services outside of China and in the interest of companies in Europe that follow up with international protection of their IP.

About the organization: The "National Advisory Center for Overseas Intellectual Property Dispute Settlement" (also: Nanjing Branch) is a governmental organization belonging to the Chinese Patent Office (CNIPA). At the end of 2021, 15 patent experts - from Europe, Japan and the USA - were selected in order to contribute their expertise to inquiries from Chinese companies, primarily from Jiangsu, an economically strong province near Shanghai that is very active in the field of IP protection rights.
