Dr. Christian Bourgeois studied chemistry along with the subsidiary subject business studies at the Westfälische Wilhelms-University of Muenster (WWU). After completing his diploma thesis in analytical chemistry, he moved to the Institute of Pharmaceutical and Medicinal Chemistry of the WWU. There, he dealt with his PhD with analgesics which ought to have fewer side effects in contrast to Morphine. After he was awarded his doctorate in 2007 he followed a training within Intellectual Property right. After finishing his training stints at a patent attorney firm in Duesseldorf and at the patent infringement department of the Higher Regional Court (Oberlandesgericht) Duesseldorf, trainings at the German Patent and Trademark Office and at the Federal Patent Court in Munich followed. When qualified as German Patent Attorney he started his activities in his own law firm. Since then he collaborates with karo IP and serves his clients in national and international prosecution procedures especially in chemistry and pharmaceutics. In 2012 he was admitted as European Patent Attorney.

Main focus

Patent law, trade mark law and designs law at German and European level. This includes advising clients in obtaining and implementing industrial property rights as well as preparing patent strategies and drawing up expert reports on the freedom to operate (FTO) and infringements.

Technical focus

Inorganic, analytical, organic and physical chemistry, food chemistry, pharmaceutical chemistry (drugs), life sciences, coatings and dyes, explosive agents and explosives-based procedures.
